You don't ever "need" to spend $500 more. It's only our neurotic obsessive worry that we're missing something which pushes us to try more costly cables or whatever we're currently focused on. That said, you've got to listen to your gut emotional response to your system. It sounds like you find the Nordost thing carried far enough if you are finding things "detailed." That's usually code for: things sound a little too tipped up in the high frequencies. Is that the case? If so, a warmer cable elsewhere is indeed a good counterbalance. You have to remember, only your reactions and perceptions matter. One persons "too bright" is another persons "just right." You mentioned nothing about power cables though. I've found they have more effect on tuning my system than interconnects. If you haven't yet done so, they are another very real option for tuning and improving sound in most systems.
