I read the article with great interest as it's conclusions about balanced vs. single-ended closely parallel my experience with a balanced and single-ended phono stage. Thank you for pointing it out.
I think Blue Jeans are saying, and in agreement with the designer of the Aqvoxx phono stage, with the poor performance of the balanced twin co-ax in hum rejection, that it would indeed be better to combine the two wires and use the shield for ground.
Several years ago I bought pairs of the Belden 1505 from them and used them happily until my rig became sufficiently resolving that they sounded unnaturally forward in the mids and upper mids. I switched to Heartland 89259 with bullets, better and quite neutral, but somewhat rolled off in the treble. Pleasant.
I am now using some exotic cables on loan from an amplifier manufacturer and thought perhaps the Cardas twin with either bullets or Vampire 800C would improve on the Heartlands for when the exotics are returned.
I only wish I could have kept the cables I have just written about in a review that should appear later this month. Being the impoverished DIY reviewer, tho', I couldn't swing it. I'll probably get a pair of the Blue Jeans LC-1 for the 15' run from pre-amp to amp to see if they are better than the 1505. $60 bucks. Even I can afford that.
