Thanks for your suggestion. Obviously there is some interesting reading ahead for me. BUT...

I did go ahead and lift the cable (the short one indeed does not reach the floor). Well, not only does sound good, but better than the short cable. I will again wonder why (probably has to do with the length being more optimal; again, a lot more reading), but it solves my problem!
