How Does Power Cable Length Make A Difference?

I have two Cardas Quadlink power cables. One is 1-1/2 meters, the other is 4 meters. I'm switching them on an AES AE-3 DJH pre-amp. The short ones sounds great, but when I switch to the long one, all of the high-frequency detail disappears.

I can understand if these were I/C's or speaker cables, but why are the power cables doing this?
