No, he was assuming that both the DVD player and the Arcam had suitable input/output digital connections and no they cannot be mixed. Both are used to transmit the digital data but the RCA/XLR format uses a standard IC and the Tos-link uses a fiber optic cable.
Does your DVD player have a digital out via an RCA jack? Sometimes players will offer both connection options but mostly it is one or the other.
