I think I know what you mean. The straight pole is, I believe, a BFA ( British Audio Federation?) banana that I particularily like. They are a little more difficult to insert ( you have to be sure the angle is right) but a firm fit is a better fit IMO.
The other bananas have a sort of bulge in the pole that is compressed when you insert it. I've often found these rather loose fitting which is exactly what you don't want and why some prefer spades. Both are relativeeasy to find although the BFA seems to be more the standard now.
