I always hated those inmates who churlishly replied, "Go check the archives." But there you have it and I've now joined the ranks.

There are so many different views based on system synergies, biases, hearing, preferences, and what have you that it's impossible to get one concrete and conclusive answer to your question. You might want to read all those posts here and try to sort out what sounds closest to your situation.

$200 for a PC is not "cheap". If you can DIY, it's a lot to be able to spend, if that's per cable. If you want to buy one outright, well, then you're more limited, but still have lots of good choices.

I have made several different ones with different materials, terminations, configurations. Ven Haus flavors, Alan Maher's recipes, and others. Only thing that seems to hold constant is that analog doesn't like shielded, and digital seems to like floating shields. That's about all I could say conclusively.

If you're gonna buy it already made, talk with Chris Ven Haus or Alan Maher about theirs and I'd say that's a good start at around or under $200 apiece.
