Q for Jon Risch on replacing internal ribbon cable

Hi Jon,

inside my CD player there is a cheapo ribbon cable between the transport and the DAC PCBs with the standard plastic snap-in flat connectors at each end.

I was wandering if I should replace this with say:
1) individual coax cables for each conductor (which coax?)
2) one CAT5 conductor for each conductor in the ribbon and then twist them together and then shield the group?
3) something else you could think of?
4) avoid those connectors and solder directly to the pins?

Or is this really just academic and those bits/bytes are fine and I would just be introducing reflections and messing up the rising edges and other nasties? because I recall that these ribbon cables are used extensively to hop between PCBs up to a certain speed.

Thanks
paba
