Ted....the R1 is built with the same heavy-duty "platform" as part of the newer Ultimo series, and unless Duster found otherwise, should accept 10-gauge solid-core wire as it was designed. I continue to recommend going straight into the rear holes of the body, which takes less effort and eliminates bending the wire. The clamping mechanism is superb.
