Brit bi-wiring

Why are the British so fond of bi-wired speakers? I have a pair of Acoustic Energy 1 mini-monitors, at first fitted with jumpers, and finally bi-wired. Heard very little difference. Since it all feeds to and from the crossover, does it depend on the degree of segregation of the drivers? Fortunately, Dave Wilson has shown no interest in this refinement!
