for the Morning GloryI would like to share my experience with a pair of Bocchino Audio Morning Glory interconnects (ICs) with single-end connectors that I have recently purchased. I am not a reviewer; nor do I want this account to be thought of as a rigorous appraisal. I am merely a hi-fi enthusiast who enjoys music and wants to connect with it. I can say straight off that the Bocchino Audio Morning Glory has helped in that quest. What follows is my impression about what I think is a very good product; a product that many people don't yet know about. However, I think this is set to change as word gets about.Bocchino Audio Morning Glory ICs are made in Australia. They attracted my attention following a recent review on 6moons website (URL below). The reviewer at 6moons stated they were "a labour of blood, sweat and tears". It so happened that I was on the "look out" for new ICs. My current pair of Harmonic Tech Magic, I was convinced, had been outgrown. Additionally, I knew of two audiophiles here in Sydney, Australia, who had recently purchased Morning Glory and were very excited about them. One of them had previously been using Stealth Indras and Nordost Valhalla ICs.
Having now owned a pair of Bocchino Audio Morning Glory for about six weeks, I would say that I am more than happy with them. Though not cheap, the Morning Glory do a wonderful job. I have compared them, in my system, to other candidates such as the well respected Cardas Golden Reference and the new Cerious Technologies ceramic ICs that have been getting much attention lately. My opinion is that the Morning Glory surpass both these ICs hands down. The Morning Glory have fabulous mid-range; good, solid, well defined bass and great high-end extension. The Cerious cables, seemed to me, to be a little "noisy" (a fact that has been documented elsewhere on the web). I also found the top end a little muted; and the mids, though good, are nowhere near the Morning Glory. Alternatively, the Cardas had what I would describe as a very good mid-range but tended to slow things down when the music began to move along. Not so the Morning Glory which kept both time and pace with whatever music was played no matter how complex or intense. The Morning Glorys delineated everything effortlessly; playing a "mucho-rapido" disc like Taraf De Haidouk’s Band of Gypsies demonstrated that they were capable of astonishing speed without losing a thing. They are musical and accurate; first, last and always.
One cannot talk about the Morning Glory without mentioning the connectors (single-ended, in my case) and the issue of cable flexibility. If you are curious about the "curious" then you must have a look at these "beasties" (Known as the Brenda B2#3). Bocchino single-end connectors seem to me, in their appearance, to be saying boastfully: "Look at me; I am the king of connectors! I am built without compromise. Plug me in and hear what I can do!" I was curious enough to email the manufacturer and ask why the connectors were so large. The reply was simple: "If they were made any smaller they wouldn't sound as good". I guess I can accept this as true because they must cost a fortune and take considerable effort to manufacture (the “blood, sweat and tears†alluded to earlier). On the issue of cable flexibility, I have to say that at first I had a prejudice against the Morning Glory by virtue of their "hose" like proportions and stiffness. But it turns out there is a kind of "solution" here for those that go about it the right way: the cable can be bent to a desired shape before putting them in place and connecting them up (the "wire" is of a type that holds its new shape when bent). In fact, the cable can be kinked and bent to sharp angles without damage (different kind of cable with different properties to any other IC I know of). Of course, once they are in service, you leave them alone and forget about them; that is, begin to enjoy what they can do.
These ICs are not cheap, which is to say that many will find the price an ask-and-a-half. This was certainly an issue for me. But the way I look at it is that just one set has transformed the performance of my whole system to a new level. Instead, I could have paid much more for a new pair of speakers or amps or whatever and be worse off both financially and in terms of enjoyment.
In summary, I have found the Morning Glory IC's more than satisfy all the usual audiophile criteria handsomely in terms of performance and sound. They are "different" to any pair of ICs that I have seen or experienced in size and bulk but they can be "tamed". They are expensive or cheap depending on how you value things. I would encourage anyone who has a high-end "rig" and who wants to get the most out of it to check them out. Read the review at 6moons website for a start.
