Alan Maher recommended using lengths of a specific length for power cords, something to do with harmonics? He recommended 5' or 6'6" as generally best. I have followed that advice and not tested the theory, so cannot tell you what to do for sure in your case, but those probably correspond to the lengths of the captive cords you already have.
