Questions about replacement PC for C320BEE

I'm thinking of trying to replace the stock power cord on my NAD C320BEE on the cheap. I don't want to add an IEC jack at this point (I can always do it in the future, if the need arises), and would like to solder the wire straight to the board. Since I'm trying to spend very little $$$, I had a couple of questions. In looking at what Parts Express has to offer, I'm wondering how much of a difference even the least expensive "hospital grade" AC plugs will make over a plug that I could get at Home Depot. Same question for the cord itself: PE has some Belden shielded cable for $6.something per foot. Would this be noticably different than 12 awg Carol cable that I could pick up at Home Depot?
Is there anything else out there that I should be aware of? Also, where can I get strain relief gromits for larger diameter cable?
Thanks in advance for any responses/ideas/help.
Cheers,
Chris
