I find it remarkable that folks don't consider this option when a chassis mount IEC inlet is either not possible or simply not desirable. A number of enclosures are difficult to open, difficult to access for modification once opened, or the user is not tool handy. I have used an inline IEC jack for components, both with use with a few inches of the stock power cord as the interface, and high quality audiophile replacement wiring to the component's internal AC feed. If you look at many component's internal AC wiring to it's IEC inlet, it's not much if any better than the mere inches of stock power cord wire that served as a captive power cord. I can vouch for the fact that an inline IEC jack, is a very good thing, custom wired or not. my 2 cents
