I had a similar situation, mainly with my surrounds. I had been using Audioquest Type 4+ for the left, right and center channels and was looking for a decent quality wire for my surrounds. Onecall.com had some Audioquest FF8 (8 conductors in a flat cable, each 20awg, meaning approximately a 14awg per side total) for sale at 59 cents per foot! I was curious, so a bought a small amount, hooked it up to my left and right speakers, and it surprisingly sounds as good as the Type 4+. I know that by all rights it should not sound as good, but it does. I now have it run to all of my speakers and am VERY happy with the results. I hope this helps.
By the way, the equipment I am using is:
Denon 2700 Recvr.
Paradigm Studio 40's Left and Right
Paradigm Studio CC Center
Paradigm Studio 20's Rears
