This is Jax, a purebred Maine Coon. He's a bit over six years old. He likes to lie on top of the stove and warm himself under the range hood lights. He looks scruffy because he is, and seems to like it that way.

His brother, Max is far more elusive and very difficult to photograph - the shots generally turn out as a motion blur.

We've developed the habit of always returning a pot or pan back to the stove element until it cools so he knows that it isn't safe to jump onto the stovetop.

Both of the cats are pure black, the bright lighting shows the depth of color in the furry coat.
