Domestic violence and other sports, NYT article

We have this problem - the broader one of misogynistic violence as I see it - here in Australia.

I don't think we are dealing with it very well, so far, either.

It is I think useful to remember that in my lifetime, parents and teachers could beat children - or threaten them with it - for quite petty 'offences,' like failing to know your 12 times tables? That was me! And, that wife beating was a 'forbidden subject'.

We have a ways to go.

And, lots of sports are violent.

I loved playing Rugby League, and watching it still. I am fully aware that it is a violent game. I lost a tooth, to a deliberate kick in the face that was damped by the playing field. The player involved was sent-off, but I went on playing, spitting blood. I was pissed that I couldn't nail the bastard. Did in our next game, the following year! ;-)!

It's complicated.
