RE: What would set the tone quality of a system

In two of the systems I have, 1 has a newer SS Paramount pre-amp with EL84 PP amp. The other has a Quicksilver tubed pre-amp & EL34 SET. Both sound very "tube like" sound with good imaging & soundstage! The amps are the last thing the signal see's before it go's to the speakers! Your Sherwood may sound better because it's better built! Or ( the new amp? ) may not sound as good because of a different listening room?
