New tube gear has an exceptionally clean, clear, balanced sound, but far from what would be called a "tube like" sound. Please don't get me wrong new tube gear is unbelievably good so don't take this as a criticism.
However my Sherwood has a quality where the instruments almost "hang" in a 3d space. It just sounds like real music and is a pleasant stereo to listen to for hours. Laid back and all the other descriptives you already know.
Now if you took a "new" preamp and a vintage amp would you remove that tube like sound quality? Or just lessen it? Would the new preamps sound over power and erase the "tube like" sound of a vintage tube amp?
