5AR4 diode trick question

Can I use the diode trick that Eli has posted many times when I have a dual 5AR4 rectifier? Also, how would I wire the diodes onto the two rectifiers? I am guessing that one diode would go to pin 4 on one transformer side, and the other diode onto the second tube at pin 6 where the other transformer side is. Also, Eli recommended 1N4007, would those same diodes work for the dual rectifier setup on my Scott 340? thanks!
