RE: Fairchild 412 Turntable - and thoughts

There were several versions of the 412 from the mid 1950's to the 1960's and the older versions seem to go for more money.

A Google search will give you enough results to see the visual differences.

I was using a dual belt drive 412 from the 1960's fitted with a Grado wood arm and I actually preferred the presentation of that combo over a then new and popular table with arm that was over $2500 in 2001.

The Fairchild/Grado combo had more punch and sounded more crisp/faster using the same two cartridges.
The new table/arm was too laid back for me BUT the "coming from black" term was obvious.
