Home Vintage Asylum

Classic gear from yesteryear; vintage audio standing the test of time.

Sounds like a good plan (with your DIY friend for backup)...

I'm more familiar with the original CA-1000, but also listened to a CA-1010 (in the same complete Yamaha system) and other than the class A mode found the sound to be the same.

Class A sounded better (to me) with the later 1010 model.

I also liked the "usable" loudness contour.

Never heard either with CD, but other than phono experienced both with tape, so CD should be fine as well.

My friend, who owned the setup, listened to bad R&R recordings, but I used to bring over lighter classical and nice vocal LP's which I think he enjoyed (though he would never admit it - being a hardcore Southern Rocker).

I had a copy of a Chick Corea LP (not released in the USA @ the time & not certain why) which he did like, so I gifted it.

Think it was a 2-3 years before I was able to purchase another copy here.

Not a SS fan in general, but liked the different/clean/sparkly sound of the Yamaha.
