The DIY Audio posts don't seem to support your assertion that the four caps are only used with the woofer. Four sets of caps for low pass duty?

Perhaps you might read post #6 here.

"The crossover is all contained in 2 pc boards held together with long standoffs - One board is the low pass filter and the other the high pass circuit...

The high pass filter is a multipole with capacitors, inductors, and planar resistors. While it was possible to upgrade the capacitors from metalized film to film and foil types..."
