Home Vintage Asylum

Classic gear from yesteryear; vintage audio standing the test of time.

I use a GFA-555II now...

I still have to recap it but it works beautifully. There is one thing that can improve its overall sound (not that its bad to begin with).

There are Roderstein film capacitors that are used as the input coupling caps in the GFA-555II. The Rodersteins are very good sounding caps but there are better caps available. I replaced the two coupling caps with Auricaps and the very good sound was noticeably more transparent and focused.

I have no idea if the GFA-545II has the same caps but it might.

Just an idea,
Ed
