You are correct, Digital Radio does not offer superior sound quality, in fact quite the opposite.

However, to put this in perspective, Norway was probably the first nation on earth to begin transitioning to digital radio; this is the result of a process started 20+ years ago and to Norwegians, is no surprise whatsoever.
