I'll second the GE Superadio III if you can find one. It has a large woofer and small tweeter for good sound quality. Separate bass and treble tone controls and ample volume capability. Using its built-in antennas AM reception is far superior to almost any current home radio, and FM is also fine (mono only). External antennas can be connected giving even better reception in stationary use. The long linear tuning dial isn't well calibrated and cranking the tuning from one end to the other is tedious, but this does allow for precise tuning. Selectable AM bandwidth and defeatable FM AFC add versatility under difficult reception conditions.
