Looking at upgrading the iron on my GM70 amps
Currently using some Hammond 6500ohm 100ma 30w 55H
Running tubes at 1050-1100v, 90maI really liked what the Monolith Magnetics IT did for these amps so looking at the following
S-15. 30watt 6100ohm 100ma 48H 7-103k bandwidth
S-5. 8000ohm 80ma 65H 6-93k bandwidth, operating at 100ma you get 55H & fsat (freq saturation) of 28hertz
Manufacture says I can run as is at 100ma, fsat moves up to 28hertz 55henry or I can regap for 100ma, fsat is 21hz and 50Henries (guessing 90ma would be somewhere in between).
Most music doesn't play down to 28hertz but don't want to lose any bass moving up response or risk saturation. My target was a 7K OPT with 20-20k, around 55h
Should I sacrifice freq response or damping factor (using lower Z)? What would you do? My thought was to regap for 100ma max with fsat at 21hz and 50Henry. I think at 6100 and 1100v, damping factor would suffer.
