Home Tube DIY Asylum

Do It Yourself (DIY) paradise for tube and SET project builders.

If you like the 813...

you should try the 5-125. Pin connection is the same, but you will need 7.5A of 5V to run the cathodes. When I built for that tube I took a pair of 120/240V, 10A, 12V transformers. Rig the primaries in series to deliver 5V and in parallel for 10V. A PowerStat 10B variac in each channel dials the voltage at the socket right where I want it( with two banana plugs to put the probes).

The 5-125/4E27 is one of the 3-grid, radial pentodes with a Tantalum anode, so you have go to run them up to temperature for them to getter properly...:) A 600V, 110 mA OP is quite sufficient to get the anodes tiger striped well into orange hot.
cheers,
Douglas
