I worked on a close air support radar in the Marines.
This was about 35 years ago so ...
It had over 2000 tubes per unit and we had 3 radars.
Troubleshooting was a daily occurrance.
They had one klystron and one thyratron.
Most were 12ax7 and 12au7 tubes.
In electronics school, they had a radar system
that you could not be within 50 ft when in use.
It was so powerful that when it swept by you,
it would light a flourescent tube in your hand.
That was anywhere in about a mile of it.
There was a story that they played a joke
on a visiting General saying if the tube lit
then he was exposed to serious radiation.
