Prerecorded tapes are usually 1/4 inch, 1/4 track stereo (quarter track), this is not the same as 4 track, 4 track is quad, it's 1/4 track, tracks 1 and 3 are left and right stereo in one direction and then you turn the tape over and play "the other side" trracks 2 and 4 as the left and right stereo in the other direction
