RE: NOS Tandberg TD 20A on auction.

Hi, tweakk:

Which reminds me! I purchased a Tandberg TD-20A quarter track (3.75 / 7.5 ips), in a local flea market years ago for something like $40 and it was a great sounding deck. I still own it. I never had it aligned, re-biased, etc., but I do remember tapes coming off of it (Maxell UD-35) sounding profoundly better than those made on my correctly biased and eq'd ReVox A-77 quarter-track. The problem I encountered with it was that the lubricant on the pivoting metal thingie which holds the pinch roller got sticky and would not move on occasion. I took it apart once and put in some light oil or possibly loosened up the gunk with lighter fluid and it was fine for years. One of the two level meters stopped working as well, but it was a great deck! Some of Tandberg's creations are very nice sounding, but servicing them is not so great. Maybe it is time for me to revitalize it!

That was one heck of a great deal, though! Wouldn't you agree?

The 2-track high speed version is the best, however.
