I used to get hot and bothered by this, but the more i read reviews of SS and tube PP gear in the mainline audio press, the more it struck me that we might actually be lucky.
We have to learn from experience, good and bad. No reading between the tea leaves of professional audio reviews; no need to worry about biases or the role of money in reviews; no reading about what the knobs and dials do; etc. There simply aren't that many reviews out there. And better yet, in the main the technology is simple to understand at a basic level compared to SS.
Think about it. We (non-DIY SETers) may be the lucky ones (although I do know a former equipment reviewer, who probably hasn't read a review in 15 years, and Has put together a lovely-sounding SS system of components for which I mainly have never seen any reviews).
