optimize for the amp or the speaker?

66.108.251.217

I originally drove my ProAc 1sc with 80w pp, moved to a Decware se84B for three years, and am now using Bottlehead Paramour 2A3.

I need more volume.

I auditioned (at home, at length) inexpensive horns with Fostex drivers, but stuck with the Proac (this with the Zen amp and a Fi X)

I sold the Fi, and greatly prefer the Paramours.

What now? I live in a small apartment, so most horns are out. Should I consider a 300b or more efficient speakers, such as ref3a mm da capo?

I've read comments that the proacs neeed power to shine, but the 1.8w zen smoked my VTL's. I've read that super-efficient horns are the only way to get the SET thing, but I hear the qualities of the Zen vs Paramour vs VTL (and vs my memory of my old Dynaco st70)

So I welcome opinions. I know one or the other's gotta go, eventually. Do I try to optimize for the amp or try to optimize for the speaker?
