You're also leaving out the fact (well, you are and you aren't, actually, but you're leaving out the interaction with the recording system at least) that instruments do not radiate a uniform soundfield, and any recording of one will be missing gobs of soundfield information.Let's start at the beginning. What are you trying to achieve? I think you have an idea here, but it needs some refinement.
