No contradiction, but I may have confused you

The latter statement simply means that a high res release generally sounds better than the Redbook release of the same album, but that the difference is *entirely* explained by improved mastering practices for high res releases.

The former statement means that the higher digital resolution has nothing to do with the improved audio quality of high res releases.
