Hello, I've been asked to put in a proposal for a PA system for a band. It's an electronica band (but they're not particularly bass-heavy), and they're looking for a high quality rig for modest-size venues. Their music calls for full-power reproduction of a D1 fundamental, ballpark 37 Hz, and I can design for that, no problem.
Where I need help is this: What sort of max SPL capability should the subwoofer stack have, relative to the mains? Funds are limited (aren't they always?), so I want to apportion resources as intelligently as possible. Don't want to put money into excess SPL capability in the subs, for example, if the mains are the limiting factor - and vice versa. Assume 100 Hz crossover between mains and subs. Should the subs be capable of SPL equal to both mains combined? Equal to one main? Halfway in between? Something else? I lean towards "halfway in between", but that's just a guess.
Thanks!
Duke
Me being a dealer makes you leery?? It gets worse... I'm a manufacturer too.
