Gang,
Note... you screw this up and it could damage stuff. Best needed a voltmeter some cutters, electrical tape and some solder & soldering gun if you want do this right.
The EMU 0404 USB is pretty nice. I know some of you are having problems with drivers and such but here let's look at the power supply.
Ok the EMU uses what is called 1.7mm connector into the device from the power supply. It requires 5V/1A and we would need a linear supply for this. I have found the increase in preformance of any of these device by a linear supply to be BIG, real BIG.
Anyways 1.7mm sucks because no one really uses this size connector. Most are 2.1, 2.5mm types.
Anyways what I did was hack off the EMU just below the ferrite bead, leaving enough wire to work with. The supply is center is + outside negative. So after stripping the two wires off the cable I used my meter to determine which was + and - and marked them with a silver sharpie.
Next I hacked off the 2.1mm connector on the Jameco stripped the wires and put my meter across the 2 wires, plugged it in and checked regulation and determined the + and - of the cable.
Next I wrapped the two positives together and the two negatives. Rechecked the power to see if everything was working. Plugged it into the emu and when I saw it worked. I then unplugged the new supply soldered up the wires and wrapped them well with some electrical tape and checked it out.
Inside is some nice stuff for the $. Sometimes amazes me what you can do with vol production.
Thanks
Gordon
