Who knows? Maybe that ultrasonic noise (even pushed up in frequency) is a factor in giving DSD its (artificial?) smoothness, which some people like and others don't. I do agree that it's subtle, whether you like it or not. Nevertheless, more bits is not necessarily an advantage if you're wasting some of them, or if some of them are used for "overhead".

Re the Exasound DAC, it's a possibility for me, but I haven't heard it as of yet.
