AV+ in iTunes compatibility mode has been my primary player setup for a number of years. I like it a lot! First, it sounds better than iTunes (bypasses CoreAudio) and it does automatic sample rate switching that iTunes will not do.

Some features include 64-bit internal processing, Direct Mode, Integer Mode, iZotope algorithms, native DSD streaming, SysOptimizer, bit perfect, memory play, Audio Unit plugins support, etc.

I only recently switched to Roon but AV+ was my favorite for a long time.
