RE: 3Q 2016 players for MAC?

Did you get a newer Mac Pro like the black cylindrical Mac Pro that looks like a mini trash can or ashtray? It's actually a very clever design. ;-) Which Mac OS version are you running?

Good software is worth paying good money for. You can cheap out on finding something sorta-suitable in FOSS but it's not like the commercially available stuff is expensive.

In my experience Audirvana Plus, Pure Music, Roon, and HQPlayer are all excellent. I haven't played with JRiver much.

BTW, if you're into Linux try opening a Terminal screen on your Mac. You'll be pleasantly surprised that UNIX lives under the hood of Mac OS and many of the commands and utilities for Linux are similar.
