Ever tried offline resampling? If you do a FFT analysis, quite a few CDs have peaks in the 12-16 kHz region and I am told that this is due to pickup from VDUs. For this reason I tend to concentrate on true hires recordings.
My suggestion is still the same. Listen to DACs that do not have coupling capacitors and have Class A output stages. Listen also to a resistive passive preamp as I have found transformers ones to have colour in the hf region.
