RE: DAC Recommendation?

I assume that you have tried the available filters on your dac, particularly if linear phase can be engaged.

Rather than relying on recommendations, try to audition prospective candidates in the price range, or buy on the basis of trial schemes. In the UK, some dealers allow you to pay for an item and audition for a weekend with no return penalty.

For classical violin music, one can reduce hf issues by going hires (176.4k 24 bit and above) or remaster music files with good software like Audition, going from 44.1k to 176.4k 24 or 32 bit integer and applying small hf cuts if needed. In my experience, it is often the steep 22.05k digital filters that cause harsh hf artefacts.
