So, a good battery is helpful. The hard disk storage is not that important: 100 or so AIFF files will get the job done.

just use your smartphone? For me, the notion of using a dedicated music only player is obsolete. As for battery power, phone chargers are cheap and plentiful.

I use an iPhone 6S for that purpose while doing outdoor chores or traveling using Shure SE535 IEMs.
