RE: Any Linux users out there have a comment on this?

Many successful Linux originated applications have been ported to Windows.
There'd be no need for this subsystem.

This subsystem operates more or less independent from Windows. Similar to Virtualbox, however it is part of Windows, thus much better integrated.
I think they are no longer talking "boxes" as in Virtual"box", they are talking "containers" nowadays.

You wouldn't see any task/processes of that Linux subsystem on the Windows task manager though. Two parallel universes.

From what I read one of the main intentions is to allow developers to play with such a hybrid environment.

The underlying connection seems to be the Microsoft Azure cloud project.
Basically all OSes shall be able to run in the MS cloud in the future.
Not to forget -- most "cloud" related IT is Linux based.

All major IT players are focusing an advanced use of cloud space.
MS can't afford to isolate themselves in the future as done with Windows.

Maybe there's more about it. Perhaps MS finally recognized that Linux is the better system. ;)

Enjoy.

PS: I'm running Ubuntu and W10 in Virtualbox. ;)
