I also have a TEAC HD 501.
When it works, it sounds great and I much prefer it to my Benchmark. That said, it will only play PCM files over USB for about 15 minutes before the sound becomes terribly distorted.
This is my second unit.
I had thought the first one was simply defective. Now I am not so sure.
I have used it on different Windows PCs, tried fresh installs, removed and re-installed drivers and all to no avail.
I am at my wit's end.
