A few years ago someone sent us a pair of Fourier amps to see if we could repair them. The company had just recently folded, and we thought that it might be nice if we could offer service on the amps. What we found upon checking them out is confimation of Brian's assesment. Poor soldering, flimsy boards, underrated components (in particular, the Bindu filter caps from India, questionable on a good day and in this particular application, being operated 20-40 volts beyond their working voltage!).
All this in an amp circuit that is historically noted for instability. We concluded that it was not ethical to attempt a repair on the amps, as it would be a losing proposition to warranty the work.
Futterman amplifiers (the type of circuit which the Fourier amps use) are well known for instability. None of them are know to do well with 4 ohms. Follow Brian's advice and if you are using 4 ohm speakers, get a set of ZEROs and use them.
