One have to know how to make the 6dj8 sing** and Allen Wright (RIP) did for one in his RTP3 preamp and power amps. The RTP3 is so far one of the most neutral preamps I have had in my system.
** don't exceed the heater-cathode voltage stated in the datasheets is one important part in making it sing. Be sure to add a grid resistor as this thing easily go into oscillation is another...
