biamping my 1.6: first impressions

62.42.63.4

as announced a few days ago i'm now biamping
my maggies with a couple of Donizetti's
(click below for details about these units)

at first i connected just one half of each amp
to each maggie (still no biamping), in order to see
how do they perform in standard mode in comparison to
my former Avi monos (150w at 8oh)

even so, the performance was already clearly superior
in transparency, sweetness & general refinement, without
any loss in bass, dynamics & PRAT, despite the inferior wattage
(60w at 8oh), but the soundstage & imaging remained more or less
the same; thanks to the need to raise the volume due to
this, i'm using now much less attenuation, which is nice

after a few hours i connected the units in full vertical
passive biamping mode, to be delighted in seeing how the
level of transparency & clarity was even higher, together
with more general cohesiveness & inmediacy; the soundstage
is now somewhat wider and deeper, but has adopted a different
form: before, it was higher & dense in the center and was
diminishing on each side; now it's rectangular, with the
different instruments/voices keeping their separated positions much
more clearly and realistically, while they sound more natural
and unfatiguing

i'll keep posted as the units become burned in!
(meanwhile, i'll be planning the passive line xo thing
to say goodbye to my former coils and caps)

best, paco
