I've looked at this thread a few times, and watched it devolve. It's actually kind of amusing.

Three things:
1. Get an understanding of power ratings: Peak, RMS, "music program", etc.
2. Get an understanding of musical waveforms and frequency content.
3. Since you want to design/build your own speakers, get these two books:
"Loudspeaker Design Cookbook" by Vance Dickerson.
"Music, Physics and Engineering" by Harry Olson.
