Oops! I had a reply all ready for you yesterday but then shut down my browser before I posted it

Basically, what I was saying was that, beyond a certain threshold of accomplishment, I'm uncomfortable in claiming one performance surpasses another. So although I'm certainly not going to denigrate the famous Heifetz/Reiner recording (nor the Oistrakh recordings which JM loves), all I can say is that there are other recorded performances, with other points of view, which I believe are also worthy of listeners' attention. Tops on my list would be Lisa's recording, which has some unusual features, such as her use of the Busoni cadenza in the first movement (rather than Joachim's or Kreisler's), and her use of Joachim's violin - the instrument which was used for the first performance of the Concerto!
